About the Author
Nancy Boyd Webb, DSW, BCD, RPT-S, is University Distinguished Professor of Social Work at the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service. Her publications include Helping Bereaved Children and Social Work Practice with Children, as well as an award-winning video, Techniques of Play Therapy. In addition to teaching and writing, she maintains a clinical practice and supervises and consults with schools and agencies. A board-certified diplomate in clinical social work and a registered play therapy supervisor, Dr. Webb presents frequently at play therapy, social work, and mental health conferences in the United States and abroad.

About the Author
Dr Paul Johns is Consultant Neuropathologist at St George's Healthcare NHS Trust and a Senior Lecturer in Neuroanatomy at St George's University of London. His research interests have included neuroprotection in acute cerebral ischaemia and the pathology of focal epilepsy. In 2006 he won the Intercapital Prize in Epileptology and is the Course Director of 'Neurocourses UK'.

My favorite physiology textbook

I am a first year vet student and Dukes' is among my favorite texts. Occasionally I will use Textbook of Veterinary Physiology, 4e but I typically find that it leaves me asking a lot of "why" questions which Dukes' answers. I also like the study questions at the beginning of each section which help me focus my learning on the important issues.

Great decluttering book.

Great decluttering book.

I strongly prefer this approach to the Japanese approach, mostly because this approach is more gradual and forgiving. The Japanese book simply set the bar too high for the likes of me. With this book and its lower standards, I'm actually making some progress for the first time. Also,this one's a great source of app recommendations, and it also covers electronic decluttering.

Friends with the author BUT STILL READ THIS!

Ok. Look. I'm friends with Fay. I even hired her years and years ago to help me organize and declutter my home and have been using her techniques ever since. So, OF COURSE, I pre-ordered her book. I mean, I adore her. But I don't really need the book... I'm pretty organized and don't have that much stuff to get rid of anymore.
Um.
Wrong.
I opened the book just to thumb through it so I could tell her I liked it and LITERALLY (and I do mean that word literally) 5 minutes later, the book was on the coffee table and I was riffling through my book cases removing lots of my old theatre plays that I haven't touched in 16+ years. Fay has a way of framing decluttering that's inspired and truly inspiring. In essence, if you're holding on to tons and tons of things from your past, then there's little to no room for your future. In truth, I've not been a theatre actor in YEARS. I'm transitioning into being a film and TV director. But all of my film and TV directing books where in a pile way under my desk because I had no room on my shelves for them. In minutes of thumbing thru Fay's book, I realized holding on to my past was literally in the way of the future I'm creating for myself. (Side note: I didn't get rid of all the plays... and Fay would back me up on this...because a FEW of them still have sentimental value for me. She's all about keeping what's important to you. Just not FIVE shelves of "important")
I still have not finished New Order. Every time I pick it up, I go thru another purge. Yesterday, I picked it up and the next thing I knew I was going thru an old stationary box filled with business cards. I didn't even know who half of these people where NOR what they did for a living. I got rid of half of them. (side note: Fay set me up with that box to put my business cards in about 9 years ago. FAY- I KNOW I should put all of the contact info from those cards into my computer and get rid of ALL the cards... But like you said, Small Steps, right?! :-)
You can not HELP but be moved to action by this book.
And that is the honest to God truth.

I have something in common with Emily Deschanel!

I bought this because I saw it on Bones and I'm a geek, but it turned out to be the best and possibly last organizing book I will ever buy. (And I've bought a few!) I like her relaxed attitude toward the whole process; she doesn't lay down any hard and fast rules or schedules, she focuses on improvement, no matter how small, and she's just genuinely encouraging. I copied her list of "Questions to Keep In Mind" and carry it with me as I work around the house so that if I'm stuck I can easily refer back to it. I also wrote two of my favorite quotes from the book on the page: "You are still a smart person, even without a copy of The Catcher in the Rye." and "Glossy magazines and slick tv shows rarely reflect real life." These are reminders (for me at least) to let go of perfection and what I think my house 'should' look like and just let it be a place to live our happy lives, in the present, letting go of STUFF!! I've been working on 'The Great Purge' for years but I've made more progress since reading this book than ever before. Thanks, Bones!!

Good read with a touching read

For me this book was filled full of drama and excuses. On one hand I thought is was wonderful that Liam was true to Meara even with many years apart he never once cheated. The trouble I have with him is he used other things to get over not being with her and could lose everything. Whatever decisions we make in life we must take the blame for them right or wrong. You do not blame others or issues you are going through for what you do. Liam is not a strong character and comes off almost baby-fide. I do however found this to a believable story and feel this is the case with a few people who look to escape issues. I cannot say I like Liam at all but I do understand him which doesn't make him right.

Meara is a strong character even when times get bad she never gives up and always puts her man first. That is until he goes back to his old ways. She said what would happen if he did and she stuck by her word. I really liked her a lot she comes across as a well put together person. She focuses on her future and never waves from her goals.

This was a good read just to much drama for me about how one man falls apart when he can't be where he wants to be because of his choices. All characters can't be people we like they tell a story of how it really is. As a women I am just sure I would ever trust him again it would be to easy for him to fall back to his old ways when things didn't go the way he wanted them. The author does give you a HAE and at times a very sad touching read

Love Meara and Liam!

Holy crap, what a great read. I’ve been following this series and was curious Meara and Liam’s story would play out since they have been together for so long. Anna Brooks gives us not only their history, but reveals issues they had to deal with that were unknown to us in her previous books. Everything leads to them being put to the test to see how strong their relationship is.
This book deals with some sensitive topics that the author dealt with beautifully. It pulls at your heartstrings and makes you root for these characters who have already endured so much together.
(Liam in Meara appear in other books in the It’s Kind of Personal series, but this book can be read as a standalone).

I commend Scholastic Book Fair for giving our Latinos a voice. A voice that many can relate to.

The author meshes traditional cultural values of good morals with present day real life situations. The importance of family is a constant thread through the book.

We all have dreams, especially our youth. Many teens dream of their "sweet sixteen" or "quinceaneras". Most Latino families throughout the world spend as much for quinceaneras as they do for weddings. It's nice to see the point of view of those that don't have $35,000+ to spend on an elaborate, breathtaking quinceanera. Plus the reality show element brings much humor.

Drug dealers and drug addicts cross all cultures and socio-economic status. In Quince Clash, there are drug dealers but no drug addicts. And the drug dealers are not even students like in many, especially higher-tuition, schools.

Bottom line, high morals standards have prevailed in many Latino families and it is heartwarming to see this documented by this author.

reality tv in a book

This is the second book in the Bordertown series. The books do not need to be read in order. Each novel can stand alone. In this installment it's almost time for Fabi's quinceanera. She dreams of not having the traditional party. She wants to take the money and go on a trip. Fabi's younger sister Alexis has another plan. She writes to a reality show on her sister's behalf with a made up story of why she deserves a big quinceneneara. The show comes to town and cameras start rolling. As the truth comes out relationships are strained. This novel read much like an episode of a teen reality show. Readers that enjoy those types of dramas would like this book

Will not recommend

The parents who hosted the Scholastic Book Fair at our school provided my class with a copy of this book. I don't think any of the parents read it first, and I will not recommend it to my students. The book contains all the worse stereotypes of Latinos (drug dealers, dishonest,superstitious). Our school does not have any Latinos, and I don't want my students to think the characters in this book are in any way representative of Mexican Americans.Yes, the reader learns the importance of the quinceanera and Fabio does get her quince in the end. The book is a quick read but not one that promotes cultural understanding or appreciation.
