A great textbook for heritage learners of Arabic in the Quran

This is an excellent book for a very specific audience: Muslims who have grown up hearing or memorizing Quranic verses, but want to understand more. This textbook is not intended to make students grammarians, conversant in Arabic, or even able to read classical Arabic in general. The book is very effective and strategically designed to achieve its stated objectives: to understand the Arabic of the Quran. No pronunciation practice. No writing, speaking, or listening comprehension. Strictly understanding the vocabulary and the grammar as it occurs in the corpus of the Quran.
Younes takes an inductive approach starting with the shorter chapters, meaning the student learns about the vocabulary and the grammar as s/he encounters it in the Quran. For this reason, I do not recommend this book for students with no background with the Quran. I strongly recommend it for the student who wants a regular but regimented study of the Arabic in the Quran as she uses it in the performance of her prayers, or when she reads the Quran without the aid of a dictionary or translation.
Dr. Younes is a well-known linguist and an inveterate Arabic professor who has written textbooks also for more communicative or integrative approaches. I recommend students interested in that approach look at his other textbooks.

Not sure whom this book will help

I am quite comfortable with Quranic Grammar, my ultimate goal is to be able to understand Quran when it is recited without looking into Mushaf(Quran).
this book just gives you breakdown words into Noun,Verb and particle and ask you to memmorize its meaning, if you do that after few weeks one will not be able to remember them.
as almost all of arabic words are derived from 3 root letters, it should provide base letters, than which verb form is used, and if there are any words from Haroofe Illa(t), (alif, wow and yaa, which will change the way normal conjugation is done) only than one probably be able to remember than better.
I will not recommend this book for home study.
